Pilgrims On The Way

our old theologians used to make a lot out of the distinction between God's knowledge and ours...they distinguished...between a knowledge of God in himslef (a theology of glory), which was unavailable to us, and a revelation of God accommodated to our weakness (a theology of the cross). they called "our theology" theologia viatorum, "the theology of pilgrims." while pilgrims haven't already arrived, they know where they're headed and are even now on their way by God's grace. -Michael Horton

I've been praying for some time now that God would either give me a desire for another church (ie the Anglican church), or that He would change Jer's heart and give him peace to commit to the little Baptist church we've been attending. As I mentioned in our update letter, this has been a wrestle for a number of months now.
Last night Jer told me that he had good news. He felt peace to "settle" at First Baptist church. (not necessarily to the extent of membership at this time) He likes the church, the people and what they believe in as a body. We have been encouraged through a number of the ministries branched out from this little church, and would like to stay and be a part of what God is doing there.
I was so excited to hear Jer's good news!! I felt a huge shift off my back and a peace- a sense of rest that I could now fully extend myself in relationship with these ladies I've been beginning to connect with.
I'm helping to start a moms and tots group mid-week at the church. There has been nothing of the sort there, although they have plenty of space to accomodate such. I am excited to see what becomes of it. We begin tomorrow.
The pastor just phoned me today and said he had been thinking that I would be a great part of the "adult discipleship" committee, and that I should consider joining that part of the board. It would intigrate me in the church, and give me a better view of what the church's goals, visions and passions are, as well as give me a voice as he sees me with gifting in council. hmmm, neat.

The boys are really at home there too, although Zach's been a little antsy in the nursery lately. I think he's starting to feel like it's being run-over by babies!! He may be ready for the sunday school class before he turns three.
Speaking of babies, when we returned from our two weeks of skipping church over the holidays, I was talking with the other young moms and found out that four of us are new "expecting moms". One of the ladies has been pregnant for some time now (due in April- on Ben's birthday in fact). The rest of us four are all due within a month, or so, of each other! That's really neat and gives even more reason for us to bond! (in a small church, five pregnant ladies is quite a phenomenon!)
So, this is our new church; the photo in the sanctuary is taken more from the back where the "older" folk tend to sit. There is, however, a great balance of young and old in the congregation.

This is Zach in the nursery with the pastor: Ward Cowey. He is an incredible preacher, encourager and ... just a great guy. Zach has really taken a shining to him, and he to Zach. (he actually takes his turn in the nursery once in a while when he gets someone to step in and do the sermon for him!)
