Pilgrims On The Way

our old theologians used to make a lot out of the distinction between God's knowledge and ours...they distinguished...between a knowledge of God in himslef (a theology of glory), which was unavailable to us, and a revelation of God accommodated to our weakness (a theology of the cross). they called "our theology" theologia viatorum, "the theology of pilgrims." while pilgrims haven't already arrived, they know where they're headed and are even now on their way by God's grace. -Michael Horton

December and all it's excitement!

Here I am in a dress my great Oma sewed for my own mom when she was pregnant with me thirty years ago. In these photos of this funky seventies dress, I am full term... and waiting!! If this really is my little girl filling this belly, I think she will love to have a photo or two of Mommy and herself in the dress great GREAT Oma sewed!

And then there was all the Christmas stuff.
Although we stretched our Christmas fun days over a couple of weeks (and present opening over five days), it still seems like it was a whirlwind! Already done?? At least we still have one gift (little baby) waiting to be opened; the gift that will keep on giving- in more ways than one!

The boys received so many blessed gifts: Tinker toys, Hot wheels tracks and cars, moving/sounding/transforming vehicles, many books,... and more than they truly needed! With each pile of new gifts, I sorted through their "old" toys and brought boxes to the thrift store, or to Oma and Opa's house to play with when we visit them in Enderby. (of course Mommy and Daddy received a great abundance of plunder as well... ridiculous, really, as I've pondered and wrestled again with our affluent and consumeristic society....)

The highlights of this season were by far the time spent with family and friends. We have been truly blessed by relationships. Together as a family we cherished our times of recounting the story of Christ's coming, lighting the advent candles in anticipation, and reading the Word of the Lord together as we longed to keep the focus and meaning of this celebratory season.

Finally, a new CAMERA!!

Jer had an extra tile job last month, so he bought me an early Christmas present: a new digital camera. We had been given an older one from very kind friends, but ... alas, it lasted us about two weeks before it followed the same fate as our own old one did this past July.
I had told Jer that I really would like the present early because I could go into labor any time and I MUST have photographic documents of such a time as this. (Back in youth group, some of my guy friends used to tease me that I was born with a camera in my hands. )

Our boys all got new haircuts today. We had been letting the hair go for some time because, well, they kinda looked cute in the "shag", but then, it became a little too obvious that we were red-necks with mullets and stuff... so, we sharpened up our image by leaps and bounds with a snazzy day at the kiddy hair boutique!

The big advent tree that we're all posing with is the extent of our Christmas tree this year. The TEACHER in me created this wall hanging to save space in our tiny quarters, but also to give my kids a daily treat/lesson to open. In each pocket there is a symbol or trinket that represents a biblical truth, verse, or story. When the boys eagerly pull it out they have a two minute "a-ha" moment with the Word of God!! (I hope so anyway)
