Pilgrims On The Way

our old theologians used to make a lot out of the distinction between God's knowledge and ours...they distinguished...between a knowledge of God in himslef (a theology of glory), which was unavailable to us, and a revelation of God accommodated to our weakness (a theology of the cross). they called "our theology" theologia viatorum, "the theology of pilgrims." while pilgrims haven't already arrived, they know where they're headed and are even now on their way by God's grace. -Michael Horton

Ben's Party!

A month earlier I had asked Ben what kind of birthday party he'd like to have. He really liked the Disney movie CARS, or at least the picture of Lightening McQueen. (Ben calls him Lightening the Queen) So, a CARS party it was.
As usual, I cut down on the costs of hosting a fancy kids' theme party by making my own cake. Instead of buying all the Disney theme decorations, I picked one pack of CARS napkins, and then bought the cheaper, but color coordinated extras like plates, cups and table cloth. Instead of goody bags, I had found a sale at Toys R Us for these little CARS toy cars- a little larger than a Hotwheels car. I had enough to give each boy (including Ben, who picked the original Lightening McQueen) one car, and each girl received a large butterfly ornament... totally non-related to the theme, but Oh, so pretty!

We hosted Ben's party at the biggest playground in town! (that saved me from having to plan games and entertainment) I made alot of sandwhiches, and a veggie platter, and a crackers, cheese and sausage (Jer's deer pepperoni) platter, and bowls of chips and... picnic stuff like that.

The day was gorgeous at 20+ degrees on an April morning! The park was crowded, which made it feel like Ben had a thousand guests at his party (but I only had to feed 30 of them!)

Ben was so not focused on the presents. He had fun ripping them open once we told him that they were for him. Although he was happy about each gift that he opened, I think he would've been satisfied if he had walked away from his party with just his little Lightening McQueen car in hand.

Benjamin turns three!!

My little man - and a handsome one at that - celebrated his third birthday this month! Here he is posing at his birthday dinner with just our little family. He had a free kids' meal at Wendy's on his birthday, so we figured we'd take the deal and go celebrate! ;)
(hey, I don't know about your kids, but any meal that comes in a bag with pictures on it, and includes a cheesy toy inside is a meal to squeal with delight about!)

Our little clan received quite a bit of attention marching into Wendy's at "rush hour", and stealing the show with their cute factor... and good manners, might I add! ;) (perhaps the sight of a young family with four kids aged four and under had something to do with the interest... mainly of elderly folk, of course)

And, in case you noticed Isaiah's eye in the photo, yes it's an inury. He fell off a picnic table at Grandma and Grandpa's house, and hung upside-down from his ankle, smashing his face against the bench and screaming there until Benjamin rescued him by loosing Isaiah's foot and sending him plunging to the ground below.
Here is a close-up of the little bruiser... and the marker scars from other messes he's gotten himself into!

Just a couple pics to catch up on!

These are last month's photos already, but I haven't had a chance to upload our latest ones from the camera.
Besides, these warrant an posting!

The first one here is of Abigail with her cousin, Saffron. Saffy will be 1 year old this month- how time flies! I'm excited that Abi has a girl cousin that's close in age; camping and gatherings will be so much more exciting because they'll have each other amongst the five boys!! (Mattias is missing from the photo of the boys; Sam's the handsome red-head!)

And then there is this photo of Abigail with the super cozy blanket which Auntie Bekah had embroidered with Abi's name and birthdate on it. We love it!!

Good Belly Excercises!!

One thing I love to do with my kids is laugh. They are a delight and a gift of enthusiasm in my monotonous, task-driven (so it feels sometimes) days! Sometimes the joke will be a silly dance by Isaiah, or a creative display of FACIAL ART by Benjamin, or a made up joke by Zachariah. Regularly though, we'll hold out the camera in front of our faces crammed together and we'll take self-portraits of our goofiness! It's good times, I tell ya. We can howl at our instant images, and hold on to our memories for years to come. One day, I'm sure, these funny little pictures will, not only make us laugh, but also warm our hearts of days gone by too quickly.

I do confess, however, that there are many days when I forget the speed at which these times are passing. I dream of days less hectic or ... less "childish". hmmm...
(Even though a tumble of a hundred thoughts could be typed out right now, I'm resisting a "sermonette" and concluding with a statement as a reminder to myself and anyone else in a similar place in life right now:)
LIVE daily, LAUGH loudly, LOVE this moment!
