Pilgrims On The Way

our old theologians used to make a lot out of the distinction between God's knowledge and ours...they distinguished...between a knowledge of God in himslef (a theology of glory), which was unavailable to us, and a revelation of God accommodated to our weakness (a theology of the cross). they called "our theology" theologia viatorum, "the theology of pilgrims." while pilgrims haven't already arrived, they know where they're headed and are even now on their way by God's grace. -Michael Horton

Journey to Bethlehem

Zachariah, Grandma, Grandpa and Mommy (Tanya) visited a live Nativity last night.
On the way to Bethlehem we were stopped by a Roman soldier who warned us to pay our taxes to Ceasar, and to remember to sign the register. Zach was a little frightened, but we happened upon a kind soldier who let Zach hold his spear- Zach was okay with him after that.

Next we met the travelling wise-men who actually had llamas with humps tied on their backs instead of camels. (Perhaps them wise men aren't all that smart...)

Then we signed the register upon arrival in the town of David.

We saw plenty of animals of all kinds, as well as a market full of vendors and peddlers with whom Zach eagerly wanted to associate.

It was a long evening, but there was lots to see and hear- a concert, a play, the nut-cracker story in live maniquin scene-by-scene displays.... And then hot cocoa and cookies to end it all.

We're getting festive!

"Why do I do this to myself" I ask everytime I try to do some elaborate craft or project with a couple of two year olds! The idea is fun; the outcome is usually satisfactory; the process can be absolutely hair-pulling!! Of course, my hands are doing most of the work.
But I have seen progress in my attitude: I no longer say "let's do a craft!" and then proceed to sit the kids beside me to observe my handi-work! I now let them get in there, sticky (me, them, the walls), licky (their fingers), picky (their noses), and then licky again...
That's what fun is all about, isn't it? Doing things together and enjoying whatever each of us can offer to the task!

Ben on the other hand...

Once again, poor little Ben is left indoors while Zach goes out to play in the snow. He's a "play gazer" of sorts.

He's okay with it though. Good attitude Benno!! (yup, that's one of the names I call him... yes, it rhymes with "menno"... I like that: "Benno the Menno!" ha ha ha)

In fact, he's quite "cool" with it! (or should I say, Ben is "warm" with it, and Zach outside is "cool" with it... sheesh, eh?)

First snow that stayed in K-town!

By 7:30 am Zach was out and getting his fix of the white stuff!
Poor guy, he kept asking for Benny to come out and play in the snow with him, but of course, Ben wouldn't be much of a play-mate all bundled up like an eskimo and laying on the cold ground.

On the outside looking in!

He actually lasted for about an hour out there alone- shaking snow off the trees, shoveling our pation, removing his gloves and boots, and then knocking on the door for help to put them back on...

Advent Sunday #1

The boys each got a little gift from me for the night we set up our Christmas decorations- the night before the first Sunday of Advent. Along with a new tree ornament, which we've begun as a tradition, Zach received a train tin found at the Sally Ann, in which I stuffed a new pair of warm mittens!! Ben recieved new mittens as well, along with his ornament, and a pair of warm muk-luk-type booties I sewed for him.
